hcmf meets Moers Festival
XN is a partnership project between the moers festival and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (= hcmf//) (UK). The project focuses on improvisation and combines genres such as jazz, free improvisation, composition and electronic music, with a special focus on emerging artists based in Germany.
The three-day workshop will explore the processes of exploration, experimentation, listening and playing exercises and the study of semi-guided scores, culminating in a new ensemble piece for improvisers that will be performed in the main program of the 54th moers festival.

Music We'd Like to Hear
The first concert features new work by rising star of microtonal guitar song, Maddie Ashman, alongside work by Chiyoko Szlavnics performed by Maddie with Mira Benjamin & Amalia Young. Also featured is a new piano trio from British composer and painter Chris Newman. We revive of a classic work by Laurence Crane, written for radio in 1996, but tonight given its UK premiere by singer Melanie Pappenheim, for whom it was written. We also revisit pieces from our very first concert in 2005, with a fiery work for prepared solo violin by Thomas Stiegler performed by Angharad Davies, and piano music of imagined timeless antiquity by Markus Trunk.
